Your Paris Itinerary. Each day is comprised of walking tours of Paris’s most historical and beautiful neighborhoods. In order to get a real feel for each neighborhood, we must explore by foot as the Parisians do, rather than look through the windows of a tour bus as so many other tour groups do. Our tours are small and intimate, allowing us access to areas of Paris that would logistically be too difficult with a larger group, and to hotels and restaurants that would be simply off-limits to a larger group. This is truly an up-close and personal experience of Paris.(Remember that all breakfasts, dinners (excluding beverages), excursions, transportation and entrance fees are included in the tour price.)
Day 0: Depart the USA. You arrive in Paris the following morning.
Day 1: The Latin Quarter: Today we will begin our Paris experience in one of the most historical and beautiful areas of Paris: the Latin Quarter. We will discover Paris’s Roman history at the Arènes de Lutèce and the Cluny Museum, we will shop at an outdoor market where we have the option of purchasing our lunch, we will walk the student-centered back streets around the Sorbonne, and discover the what makes this lively neighborhood tick. Dinner tonight is at a great Left Bank bistro, followed by an evening boat cruise on the Seine.
Day 2: Ile de la Cité and Ile St. Louis: Today we will visit the island where Paris got its start over 2,000 years ago when it was known as “Lutèce”: the Ile de la Cité. We will start off gazing at the morning light as it filters through the beautiful stained glass of the Sainte Chapelle, followed by a stroll through Paris’s most famous flower market and then over to the Notre Dame where we have the option of climbing its towers for an up-close look at its gargoyles. After lunch (on your own), we will head over to the Ile St. Louis for a taste of the incredible Berthillon ice cream and some shopping. You will have time to explore this quaint island on your own before we leave for dinner at a family-run bistro near the Eiffel Tower. Tonight will end with a nighttime visit to the sparkling Eiffel Tower.
Day 3: Musée D’Orsay and Le Marais: We begin today with the Impressionist Art museum, le Musée d’Orsay. Take time to admire the breathtaking works of Monet, Manet, Dégas, Renoir, all the Impressionist masters are there. After lunch on your own, we will head over to the Marais to explore one of Paris’s most beautiful squares, the Place des Vosges, with its small cafés, restaurants and art galleries. We will walk through the historical back streets of the Marais, with an optional stop at the Picasso Museum or afternoon tea at Mariage Frères. We will end the Marais tour at the Centre Pompidou. You will have free time before we meet for dinner at an excellent and authentic “creperie” run by a charming couple from Bretagne.
Day 4: Louvre, Champs Elysées: This morning we start our day at the most grand museum of all: the Louvre. You will be free to explore the museum on your own, taking in the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Winged Victory, the major masterpieces of all time. After lunch on your own, we will take the walk that used to be reserved for royalty: from the Tuileries Gardens, down the Champs Elysées and ending at the Arc de Triomphe where we can go to the top to get a great view of Paris. You will have plenty of free time for shopping and exploring the area around the Champs Elysées, and dinner tonight will be at a fantastic Moroccan restaurant very close to the Champs Elysées.
