My thought on this is that you should be comfortable but try to blend in as much as you can. Why? Not because you want to hide your nationality, but because tourists tend to be targets for pickpockets. Plus, you don’t want to feel entirely out of place and uncomfortable. That said, leave your logo tee shirts, tennis shoes and baseball caps at home. Black, grey, khaki will go far. Women might want to bring some neck scarves, as they are very fashionable in Paris. For men, a tie is not necessary unless eating at a very high end restaurant. Otherwise for evening a jacket would be nice. Bring comfortable walking shoes because you will be walking a lot. With the varying temperatures, clothes that you can layer would be most convenient. And don’t forget your umbrella.
