More than 1,000 letters from Monet’s friends and admirers will be auctioned next Wednesday in Paris. Included in the letters are some from Pierre-August Renoir. In Renoir’s letters to his friend Claude Monet, you will find subjects that are typical of what two friends would discuss, including the birth of a child and the suffering of his final years. Renoir also praised Monet and showed appreciation for his assistance in helping Renoir to better understand the use of light, how to paint water and the sky.art for helping him understand light, the clouds and the sea.
Other Impressionist painters whose letters are included are: Edouard Manet, Paul Cezanne, Gustave Caillebotte, Edgar Degas, Alfred Sisley and Mary Cassatt.
The letters have remained in the Monet family since his death in 1926. His great-grandson Michel Cornebois hasgiven them to the Artcurial auction house. THey expect the sale to bring in $666,000.
